Greetings
to all. I am M. Turner - the owner and creator of all the works
on this site. I thought I'd put a bit of a face to the site and
make a small page so you know where your jewelry comes from.
I live in Florida with my wonderful guy
and two cats. We have a nice apartment out of which I run my
small studio. PhoenixFire Designs
is my "full-time" job, though I certainly don't keep regular
hours. Often, you can find me working on a piece at 2am. It's
just about whenever inspiration hits.
I began working with jewelry back in
2002 after a trip to the local craft store. All the pretty glass
beads were hitting the shelves at that time and I thought I'd
like to try my hand at it. I've always been an artsy-craftsy
type person and this seemed like another interesting medium. I
had no idea I'd grow to love it as much as I have, nor any
thought back then that I'd make a website for it!
My first projects were pretty lacking.
Wrong kind of stringing material, no notion of how to come up
with the patterns and the design, working on the living room
coffee table, sitting on the floor, beads rolling around
everywhere! But, even though those first pieces weren't all that
great, I got a lot of nice feedback and it encouraged me to try
to do more - and be better at it. I started reading up online on
the differences in materials and techniques and refined my own
skills. I've never taken any classes, but I feel much more
confident about my techniques now and I enjoy learning new
things and using new materials in my work.
My horns started as a small side project
for a local Renaissance Festival. I had seen them for sale but
they appeared so poor of quality. Mold lines, rough edges,
sloppy paint jobs - I knew I could do better then that. So I set
out to make a pair of my own. Pretty soon my friends all wanted
pairs!
I've been selling them during the month
of October on ebay for the last few years now with great
success. Pairs of my polymer horns have gone literally around
the world. An art school in New York City commissioned a pair
for a theater production; a sword-fighting troupe commissioned a
pair for their own local Medieval Faire; I've had custom orders
from Australia and the UK as well as locally here in the US and
Canada. I sell them year-round here on the website and Halloween
is my busiest season. With the horns though, the sky is the
limit, and I enjoy getting custom requests for colors and
styles. They're a lot of fun to make and wear.
I'm really pretty easy to work with in
terms of different ideas, or variations on items listed. So if
you see something you like but would like customized, just email
me. I'm happy to work with you. I've made a lot of custom orders
both in horns and jewelry and look forward to more. I'll always
let you know what I can and can not do and keep you updated on
all steps of the process if you do place an order. I know
there's a little bit of nervousness when ordering from a
stranger online, so I do everything I can to ensure you are
happy with your order and that the process is as smooth as
possible.
Thanks for your interest and enjoy your
visit here at PhoenixFire Designs.
